Spin to Win: Turntables Are Organizing Game Changers

In the quest for a more organized and efficient home, many of us overlook the incredibly versatile turntable, also known as the Lazy Susan. These rotating platforms can be game changers when it comes to decluttering and optimizing various spaces in your home. From pantries to bathrooms to garage cabinets, turntables can help you make the most of your storage spaces.

Turntables in the Kitchen

Pantries are perhaps the most obvious spaces that can benefit from turntable magic. Instead of digging through bottles or stacks of canned goods or jars of spices, use a turntable to bring items to you with a simple spin. This not only makes it easier to find what you need but also prevents forgotten items from languishing in the back of the pantry. We will also often place large turntables in the corners of pantries to maximize those tricky spaces.

For storing spices, we often love using spice risers, spice drawers, and spice pull-outs, but depending on your kitchen layout and storage options, organizing spices on a Lazy Susan may be the way to go. You will always know what you have and will never again struggle to locate that elusive ingredient.

If you like keeping oils and vinegars handy when you’re cooking, you might also want to select a small turntable to place in an upper cabinet near your stove. Just open the cabinet, give the Lazy Susan a spin, and grab the perfect oil for whatever you are making tonight.

And don’t forget that these little wonders will also do, well, wonders under the kitchen sink. We all tend to keep a variety of dish detergents, spray bottles, and cleaners in these cabinets, and a turntable will make sure that none of these is ever lost or out of sight.

I’ll drink to that! 

We also love Lazy Susans in the liquor cabinet or in the bar area of a home. When it comes to your liquor stock and supplies, you probably have a lot of bottles. Here, too, to avoid losing sight of what you have in the back of a shelf, put your bottles on an extra-large turntable and you’ll always be able to find the bottle you’re looking for. Or use two side-by-side turntables, and devote one to liquor and another to sodas, mixers, and the like.

Bathrooms and Mudrooms

By using turntables in the bathroom, you’ll no longer need to struggle to store (and find!) your many lotions and potions. Place a large turntable under the bathroom sink and suddenly, your lotions, cleansers, and hair products are right at your fingertips. No more awkward bending and reaching or forgetting what you have because bottles are lost in the back of a dark cabinet.

Although we like to keep countertops clear whenever possible, sometimes tiered turntables are the perfect solution for organizing cosmetics on a bathroom countertop. There are also some prettier options that mix materials to allow the turntable to be both functional and stylish. If you can’t find the one you want, just select a tray you love and use a conversion kit to turn it into a Lazy Susan.

Many of us tend to store things like sunscreen and first aid supplies for easy grab-and-go in our mudrooms (or possibly even dedicate a place for these in our kitchens). Turntables make it easy to organize all of these items; use divided turntables to contain tubes of lotions and ointments or even a stash of Band-Aids.

Arts, Crafts, and Office Solutions

For art and craft supplies, we again recommend a divided turntable with tall sides that keep everything contained. This is a perfect way to organize paints, pens, markers, paintbrushes and more. These divided options are also very useful for storing desk supplies in home offices and dorm rooms.

Garage

A turntable in your garage cabinet is a great way to store things like bug spray, WD40, cleaning supplies, and more. We find that these spinning wonders can stop us from overbuying especially rarely used garage items; before you make another trip to Lowes or Home Depot, give your garage turntable a spin to make sure that you don’t already have that weed spray you suddenly need again.

The Right Turntable for Every Space

Because turntables come in a variety of sizes, colors, and materials (from clear plastic to bamboo), with high sides and low, in divided options and even in rectangular form (to fit better in your fridge), you can easily find the right turntable for your individual style and space.

From simplifying meal prep in the kitchen to decluttering the garage, turntables can be employed in a variety of creative ways to maximize space and minimize stress, making your daily life more organized and a whole lot easier. These so-called “Lazy” Susans can in fact be the hardest-working tools in your home organization repertoire.
